Description

GWR Whitemetal Goods Yard Crane.
The subject of. this model is a typical GWR fixed yard crane seen in goods yards all over the system. A photograph of the prototype is shown in OPC’s ‘Great Western Wagons Appendix’ by J. H. Russell, Fig 177 page 106. The quoted colour scheme for this (and other yard cranes) is medium grey all over.
A dry run is recommended before assembling the parts. Be especially careful to arrange the spindles in the correct places; noting that there are two different types of spindle with handles fitted. The jib support should be bent up from some thin but strong wire before assembly commences. The shape for this item is given below. Parts should be cleaned and dried before assembly. Low melting point solder is not recommended, use Araldite or any 5-minute epoxy glue or a cyanoacrylate ‘super glue’, observing the usual precautions especially with the latter type of adhesive. The kit is not intended to make up into a working model.
