The fictional town of Daconby is located near Lincoln, on what was known as the ‘Lincolnshire Loop’. The Great Northern built a secondary station named Daconby Town in the more run-down part of town. There is a small industrial estate, and the old maltings, probably now used for more general purposes. The glamorous trains and locos would not appear at such a station.

The period depicted is the early 1960s, not long before steam was eradicated from the railways. The trains are still run in the traditional way, with freight trains made up of wagons which had to be shunted, rather than the block trains which appeared later.

The layout is built to one of the less common scales, the finescale version of the erstwhile Tri-ang TT. While ready-to-run models are not currently available, there are plenty of kits on sale, and Tri-ang items can also be used; some of the models in the range were way ahead of their time as far as detail and accuracy were concerned.

This scale is really useful for those who are restricted for space but enjoy modelling, and it does have that degree of individuality.
