Instructions;

PC TRANSFERS
These are either Pressfix (although there are in fact none) or Methfix although the HMRS who now own PC’s transfers don’t like us using these trademarks

Strip off the thick backing. Lay the transfer face down where required and wet well with a mixture of 3 parts methylated spirit, 1 part water. (With large transfers, wet the model surface with the spirit first). Carefully adjust, position if necessary, then press down firmly. After 10 minutes or more, soak the tissue with water and peel off when soft. Leave for a few hours to harden, then wash off surplus gum. A protective varnish may be applied if desired-in particular, this helps to prevent tarnishing of “gold” transfers.

Some people recommend attaching the top or bottom edge, cut over size for the purpose, of each number to a short length of inverted Magic tape to align the letters and numbers, a

WM are Woodhead Models, they would be Pressfix if trademark rules allowed it.

Instructions for using Woodhead Transfers
Peel off the cartridge paper backing to leave the carrier stuck to the wax paper. Do not remove latter as it is only waxed one side (the other will stick to the transfers). With a sharp scalpel craft knife cut out the item required. Don’t cut through the wax paper. Using the knife blade position the transfer on the model. When lined up correctly, brush water over the transfer so that the carrier is seen to soak it up. Continue brushing water on until the carrier floats / brushes off (about 15 seconds). Press down with a finger tip to form over raised detail. When the model is finished leave to dry overnight, then varnish. If varnishing by brush, try mixing the varnish on black carbon paper. The bits picked up tone down the white lettering nicely. It may be easier to put plenty of water (a raised blob) on the model first, then gently float the transfer down. This method does give some element of movement to line-up the transfer. On the instructions, items in black are surrounded by a dotted line.

POWSIDES rubdown Transfers
The lettering should be applied in low humidity conditions not exceeding 21°c (70°F). (Cool dry weather preferred).
Paint the sides to be lettered with ‘enamel’ paint. Humbrol and Phoenix are particularly recommended. However, it is quite possible that cellulose and acrylic paints are usable in view of the very low tack of the transfer. Spray the completed side with Citadel Miniatures Matt Aerosol – from a distance. Citadel Miniatures now call it ‘Purity Seal’ (and matt may be satin). Any varnish may attack the paint if used too close such that it gets ‘wet’. Do NOT use any softening agent or similar product sold for (waterslide) decal fixing. The transfers are very easy to detach from the carrier film so be very careful not to let the sticky side of the transfer touch anything until it is in position to rub down. Small letters can sometimes be picked up on a scalpel tip and repositioned if this happens – quickly.

To apply proceed as follows:-
1. Stick down the pre-painted and thoroughly dry wagon side to a smooth surface. preferably with double sided tape although Blue Tack can be used instead. It is easiest to do this before assembling the wagon (In Powside’s opinion).
2. Tape back-shading carrier film sheet if separate, or if no back-shading, main lettering carrier film sheet over the side using the base line and centre pip to align accurately. To avoid inadvertent transfer of spare numbers during the rub down process cut off a piece of the brown (or blue) ‘greaseproof’ backing paper and place beneath them.
3. Cut slots in the transfer where hinge or door catches occur to allow it lie fairly flat. You may well find it easier to cut the transfer carrier film into separate pieces either side of the doors, or strapping, and proceed with separate transfers.
