72 Station Road, Ditton, Aylesford, Kent ME20 6AY

The Wantage Tramway was a small fairly decrepit light railway which ran between Wantage Road Station on the GWR mainline to a Wantage Town Station tucked away behind the High Street. It struggled on for many years until finally during World War 2 the track was pretty much destroyed by American tanks being parked on it and it never recovered.

I have been fascinated by the Wantage Tramway particularly as I have a love of small engines and something different. I obtained a prototype track plan which I then put into Templot and overdrew this to prepare the layout plan. The track was then built to this plan using pcb and 3mm Society Code 60 rail. I managed to find a source of H &M point motors which are used to control the points. That nice man at Worsley Works was able to etch all of the coaches and the two tram locos, the other locos will be built from scratch.

It must be understood that this is my impression of The Wantage Tramway circa 1935 but is subject to some artistic licence on my part both in relation to the surrounding scenery and the use of rolling stock which is used on the layout.
